2022 saw Lake Garda see an increase in tourist numbers compared to the pre-pandemic numbers, the now distant 2019. According to data that has not yet been made official, more than two million tourists reached the lake mirror, 5% more than three years ago.
The Veronese side of the lake is experiencing a period of growth in terms of entrepreneurship, real estate and, clearly, in the tourism sector. 50% of the hotels overlooking the lake remain open even during the winter season, when it was customary to walk from one town to another without open accommodation and refreshment points. Thanks to the growth of the real estate market, the organization of a plurality of events spread over the internal year and the improvement of accommodation, the lake has become a pole of attraction full of activities and ready to satisfy the various requests of tourists.
The main tourism of the lake comes from beyond the Alps, more precisely from Germany and Austria. However, there are many Italians who frequent the Garda, and with them 12% of the presences include Anglo-Saxon tourists.
The upper lake confirms itself as a favorite place for sportsmen and women, with proposals ranging from surfing to sailing, from diving to fishing. The lower lake, on the other hand, is preferred for its spa offers, luxury campsites and theme parks such as Gardaland and Movieland.
Another noteworthy activity is the Prada Costabella del Monte Baldo cable car, a favorite place for walks, extreme sports and food and wine proposals. The redevelopment of the tourist offer also passes through the kilometers of paths in the hinterland and the numerous cycle paths which today allow the complete circumnavigation of the lake, both in summer and in winter.
